‘Vataka’ is a dosage form that is best compared to a chewable. Vyoshadi Vatakam is a traditional recipe wherein Kapha balancing drugs like Vyosha (the three pungent namely (Dry ginger, Black pepper, Long pepper) are made into a chewable form in a sweet jaggery base.

It is beneficial in acute and chronic cases of sinusitis, recurrent cough and cold, sore throat and respiratory congestion. The Vyoshadi Vatakam formula starts working from the oral cavity, by stimulating the taste buds and thereby the entire digestive process. Relieves sore throat and nasal congestion.

  • Chewable granules of Vyoshadi Vatakam is a combination of Vyosha (Zingiber officinale, Piper longum, Piper nigrum ), Taleesapatra (Abies webbiana), Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica), Tintrinika (Tamarindus indica),Ela (Elettaria cardamomum), Chavya (Piper chaba), Jeeraka (Cuminum cyminum), Twak (Cinnamomum Verum), and Patra (Cinnamomum tamala) in a sweet jaggery base.
  • Chewed in small quantities frequently, Vyoshadi Vatakam relieves sore throat and prevents further infection and disease.
  • It expels vitiated phlegm from the respiratory tract. It relieves nasal and chest congestion.

Dosage and Instructions

Adult: 10-15 gms Vyoshadi Vatakam daily in divided doses, maybe be taken as and when required.

Child: 5-10 gms Vyoshadi Vatakam daily in divided doses, may be taken as and when required.

Key Ingredients

Sarkara (Saccharum officinarum)

Commonly known as the sugarcane, its roots are used for the therapeutic purposes. Having properties aphrodisiac (arouse sexual desires), laxative, cooling, demulcent, antiseptic, and tonic. Sugarcane juice is very useful in jaundice conditions.

Pippali (Piper longum)

Pippali is known as “Tridoshic” herb as it suits all body types. Thus regular consumption of Pippali in suggested quantity can help you to immune your body to quiet an extent. Pippali has Anti-microbial, Anti-inflammatory activity. Consumption of Pippali is said to exhibit anti spasmodic action and hypoglycaemic effect which is believed to lower blood sugar level. It is also reported to be antagonist in respiratory depression. Also due to its cooling post-digestive effect consumption of Pippali is considered as a safe and effective option to avoid all sorts of digestive disorders.

Maricha (Piper nigrum)

It is native to Western Ghats of India. It is cultivated for its fruit, which is widely used as spice and in traditional Indian medicine preparation. Black pepper is an appetizer and carminative commonly used in the treatment of digestive system related complaints like dyspepsia, indigestion, flatulence, nausea, diarrhoea and colic pain. in respiratory system it acts like expectorant used in cough, cold and chest congestion. Externally used as analgesic and in Vitiligo it stimulates the production of pigments.

Shunti (Zingiber officinalae)

Due to its strong flavor, Ginger is an essential ingredient in many Asian cuisines. Its therapeutic benefits have been recorded in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Ginger is a potent anti-nauseatic and is beneficial in treating upset stomach. Gingerol and shogaol, active components of Ginger, suppress gastric contractions. Both the fresh and dried rhizomes of Ginger suppress gastric secretion and reduce vomiting. The compounds 6-gingerol and 6-shogaol have a number of pharmacological properties, including antipyretic, analgesic, antitussive and hypotensive properties.

Taleesa Patram (Abies webbiana)

Commonly known as East Himalayan fir, its aroma has potential to cure mild headache and relieve mental stress. Leaves are helpful in diseases such as cough, asthma, chronic bronchitis, common cold, sneezing, allergic rhinitis and upper respiratory infections.

Chavya (Piper chaba)

It is useful in treating indigestion, abdominal colic, worm infestation, poisoning, anorexia, productive cough, asthma, bronchitis, fever, diarrhea, IBS, hemorrhoids, piles, fistula, chronic respiratory disorders, throat disorders, and rheumatic conditions.

Chithraka(Plumbago zeylanica)

It is a potent digestive medicine used for treating a host of ailments including indigestion, constipation, anorexia, abdominal distension, stomatitis, abdominal pain, etc. Imbued with digestive, caustic, stimulant and carminative properties, it eliminates harmful ‘AMA’ toxins from the body which has accumulated due to malabsorption of food particles.

Chincha (Tamarindus indica)

Tamarind also known as “Indian date” is a sweet and sour fruit that is an integral part of the Indian cuisine and has many health benefits. Tamarind is considered good for constipation due to its laxative property. It helps to boost immunity as it is rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, making it useful in managing the common cold. Tamarind powder might also help to manage blood sugar as well as insulin levels and is thus considered good for diabetic patients. It might also be beneficial for people trying to manage weight as it helps decrease food cravings thereby preventing overeating.

Ela (Elettaria cardomum)

Commonly called Elaichi, it has a very good antiibacterial and anfungal properties. It helps in reducing inflammation. Cardamon is often given the epithet ‘Queen of Spices’ as it is used to flavor food in many countries. in addition, the herb has several health benefits. The German Commission E has indicated the use of Cardamom in dyspepsia and as a cholagogue, which promotes bile discharge from the system. The herb is also helpful in treating gum and teeth infections, throat congestion and kidney disorders.

Jeerakam (Cuminum cyminum)

Called Cumin Seeds in English and botanically, (Cuminum Cyminum) is Indian Spice as well as Ayurvedic medicine used for several diseases of the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and reproductive system.
